India’s Historic Leap to Mars: The Mars Orbiter Mission’s Unprecedented Success



 On September 24, 2014, the world witnessed a historic achievement as India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as "Mangalyaan," successfully entered the Martian orbit. This monumental accomplishment marked India as the first Asian nation to reach Mars orbit and the only country to do so on its very first attempt. The achievement resonated across the globe, positioning India as a serious contender in space exploration.


The mission was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on November 5, 2013, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Despite being a relatively modest mission with a budget of approximately $74 million—a fraction of the cost of similar missions by other countries—it demonstrated India's prowess in executing complex space missions with limited resources. This cost-effective approach showcased India's expertise in frugal engineering and innovation.
